Get your clue featured in the Hidden Books Game

Our popular bookish brainteaser gets bibliophiles around the nation figuring out the hidden book titles. Congratulations to Rebecca M. from Aberdeen and Libby W. from Essex who created clues for last year's game.

One lucky Caboodler will get the chance to see their clue designed and featured in this year's Hidden Books Game, and win a £100/€115 National Book Token to spend in their favourite bookshop.

To enter, you just need to describe to us – in no more than 50 words – what your clue would look like (and give us the answer so we can judge whether or not we think it’s a good 'un!). Here are some tips to get started:

  • We're looking for clues for the biggest and newest books – published within the past five years – that you’ve loved reading recently, or contemporary books you haven't stopped hearing about.
  • Adventure! Travel! Journey! Think about signposts, road signs and other signage – many of our clues will be along this theme.
  • Last year, the game featured a newspaper, a pile of books, and some pyramid sandcastles – can you think of a clue that could be an object in a scene?
  • What's on your shelves? Your clue could be for the biggest book in science fiction, the best in modern crime, or the most page-turning literary fiction you've read recently.
  • Check out the answers for the past few Hidden Books Games for inspiration.

Thank you - this competition has now closed. The winner will be contacted as soon as we've looked through everyone's ideas!
