Jasper Winn was appointed writer-in-residence by the Canal & River Trust, and travelled a thousand miles by boat, kayak, cycle and on foot, discovering along the way a world of wildlife corridors, underground adventures, the hardware of heritage, new boating communities, endurance kayak races and remote towpaths. In his book, he shares journeys with some of the last working boat people and meets the anglers, walkers, boaters, activists, volunteers and eccentrics who have made the waterways their home.
Travelling at less than four miles an hour, narrowboat holidays are often said to be the fastest way to slow down. There are over 2,000 miles of beautiful canals and rivers to explore – from cruising through open countryside with ever changing views, to exploring historic towns and exciting waterside cities. Drifters Waterway Holidays offers over 590 self-drive boats from 47 locations across England, Wales and Scotland.
