The Costa Book Awards celebrate some of the most enjoyable books of the last year and are unique in that they use a category system - First Novel, Novel, Biography, Poetry and Children's Book - which means there are plenty of delicious reads to suit all readers' tastes.
From Jon McGregor to Katherine Rundell, the sets of 20 books include the five marvellous category award winners, recently announced:
Gail Honeyman, winner of the Costa First Novel Award for Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon
Jon McGregor, winner of the Costa Novel Award for Reservoir 13 which the judges said was "hypnotic, compelling and original"
Rebecca Stott, who scooped the Costa Biography Award for In the Days of Rain, her memoir of growing up in, and breaking away from, a fundamentalist Christian sect
Helen Dunmore, who sadly died in June last year, posthumous winner of the Costa Poetry Award for Inside the Wave which the judges called "an astonishing set of poems"
Katherine Rundell, winner of the Costa Children’s Book Award for The Explorer, a modern classic of adventure, survival and friendship set in the Amazon rainforest.
