The Hungerford Bookshop can be found in our beautiful listed building at the heart of our historic town. Hungerford is the centre of the North Wessex Downs, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Our award-winning Bookshop was announced as the South West Regional Winner in the 2015 Independent Bookseller of the Year Industry Awards and it’s not hard to understand why……

Owned and run by Emma and Alex, the bookshop team are passionate about books and the importance of independent shops. You won’t experience algorithms here. What we do offer is knowledge, personal recommendations, the chance to hear from the authors themselves and the joyful serendipity of discovering a title you never expected.

Whether you have aspirations to write fiction or biography, this workshop will provide you with the essential techniques required to turn your writing goals into reality. Expect lots of short writing exercises, leading to the creation of a 100 word story inspired by a family event from the past or a character from your life. Rachel Malik is the author of the critically acclaimed Miss Boston and Miss Hargreaves (Penguin) which was inspired when she discovered a fascinating story from her Grandmother’s life. It was partially written in Hungerford and inspired by the lalndscape of the Lambourn Downs. The author will be be using her skills as a writer, historical researcher and former lecturer in English to lead this friendly one-day workshop for writers of all levels.
